Mark didn't see the lorry pull out. Nobody did — except his dashcam.
It was a wet Tuesday morning on the M25, just past Junction 10. Mark had been driving for eleven years without a single claim. Then a HGV changed lanes without signalling and caught the front corner of his Audi. Mark spun. The lorry didn't stop.
By the time the police arrived, it was his word against a blank road. The insurers told him it would likely be marked as a 50/50 fault split — meaning his premiums would rise, his no-claims bonus would be hit, and he'd be partly liable for damage to the lorry.
"I kept thinking — the whole thing was on camera. But nobody was asking for it."
Mark had fitted a Nextbase 622GW three months earlier, after reading about a neighbour's near-miss. He hadn't given it much thought since. But when he got home that evening and plugged in the SD card, the footage was all there — crystal clear, time-stamped, with GPS speed data embedded in every frame.
One Clip. Case Closed.
His solicitor submitted the footage to both insurers within 48 hours. The 4K resolution made the lorry's registration number perfectly legible. The GPS data confirmed Mark's speed was within the limit. The G-sensor had automatically locked the clip the moment of impact, so nothing was overwritten.
Within two weeks, the lorry's insurer had accepted full liability. Mark's no-claims bonus was untouched. The repair bill — over £14,000 — was paid in full.
"I was lucky," Mark told us. "Lucky I'd bought it when I did. A lot of people haven't, and they're sitting there with a split-fault on their record for something that wasn't their fault at all."

Why It Matters on UK Roads
The UK has over 40 million registered vehicles and some of the most congested motorways in Europe. Dashcam footage is now accepted as primary evidence by all major UK insurers — and many drivers who submit footage report significantly faster resolution of disputed claims compared to those without it.*
Yet fewer than one in five UK drivers currently has one fitted. The most common reason given? "I never got round to it."

Mark's story isn't unusual. What's unusual is that he had the footage. Most people involved in disputed incidents don't — and they pay for it, sometimes for years, in higher premiums.
What to Look For
Not all dashcams are equal. For insurance purposes, you need at minimum: 1080p resolution (to read plates), automatic incident locking (so footage isn't overwritten), and ideally GPS (to embed speed data). For rear-end protection, a front-and-rear system is worth the extra investment.
At DashGoods, we only stock cameras we'd fit to our own cars. Every model ships from our UK warehouse with free delivery over £50 and a full 2-year warranty.
